My intention for this blog when I asked Josiah for it, was to have a place where I could playfully make up stuff too fantastic for anyone to actually believe, and once realized as jest, would bring delight to the reader. Funny thing is, I assumed my own life was too boring to be blogworthy. And yet, in the past two weeks since my first post, my life has taken a turn for the exciting.
I now have a new job, coordinating the weather-monitoring system at Covenant Transport, which fits perfectly into my class schedule, and a new girlfriend, Debbie, who just happens to be the most incredible woman I've ever met. (Hmm... come to think of it, I should probably stick an exclamation point or two on that sentence.) "...just happens to be the most incredible woman I've ever met!!!!!"
My mom and step-dad spoke to her briefly over the phone, and you have to know she's awesome when it's obvious that she has no fear or hesitation about simply having a phone handed to her, which has upon the other end the parents of her new boyfriend. I'm pretty open about making myself known to new people, but even I'm not sure how well I would have reacted to talking to her parents like that. Hopefully I'll find out soon.
I guess it's pretty clear, God has blessed me immensely since my last post. For those curious about my knife-selling, I just hit my next commission level. But funny enough, I haven't hit my next promotion. I'm at $2999 in sales, meaning that 100% of my next sale will be at the new, higher commission. However, I don't technically get the new title until I'm at $3000. There really aren't supposed to be people who've hit the higher commission without also hitting the promotion, but somehow I found a way, as usual, to be just a little bit weird.
I had finally given in and decided to trust God, having held back in fear and unfaith for far too long. I can actually trace the moment I decided to trust to one single day before the blessings began pouring down:
I was preparing to go to church, and it occurred to me that I hadn't been faithful with the tithe, because I didn't trust God to meet my need, and feared to give up even that tenth of the tiny amount I was making. So I asked myself whether I believed that God was faithful or not (not the first time I have wrestled with the question) and decided that I believed He is. I wrote out a check for what truly was a pitiful amount, and yet was genuinely one tenth of what I had made for the past two weeks. I placed it in the offering plate when it came around and decided that God would be God, and I would have to trust Him to provide for me.
The following day I had a knife demonstration scheduled at the Rogers's house. If you haven't met Jeff and Beth Rogers, let me just tell you that they're a couple of the coolest people around. As it turned out, their son Dave was actually at Vector that same day. In fact, I had even seen him as I left the office and he was arriving. Right at the end of the demo, he walked in, and once we realized we had seen each other, we were both sort of surprised and impressed by the coincidence. I asked him what he'd thought of it, and he told me that it was actually one of two jobs he had interviewed for that day. The other was at Covenant Transport. When he described the job to me, I thought it sounded really cool. He said they had been really impressed with him and that they still had positions available. I called the next day, scheduled an interview that afternoon, was hired the day after, and started my first day of training today. Dave got the job too, on a different shift.
But the real blessing came one week later, yesterday afternoon, when Debbie and I started going out. :D Wow! I know every guy who's just falling in love thinks he's got the greatest girl ever, but I know they're all wrong, because she's with me. ;)
Posted by locolobo at October 5, 2004 12:51 AM | TrackBack1. Cutco knives are great. I use mine every day. Can you get me a deal on a new paring knife to replace the one we think a housemate "misplaced"?
2. The Rogers are indeed cool. Add up chickens, rabbits, teepees, metal-drum sculptures, eggplant ratatouille and housemates making experimental greenhouses - it's a winning combination.
3. What's great is falling in love with the greatest girl ever, and then still feeling that way 17 years later.
4. You want to hear about fantasic, ask Josiah about the front of his truck.

2. yes
3. amen
4. I'll ask him next time I speak to him.
That's great about how things are going so well in your life right now, Mason. I always knew you would go far and do wonderful things. I'm very happy you found a girl you fell instantly in love with. Don't let her get away! Good luck!

Awwwwwwwww.... ((blushes))
Posted by: Debbie at October 5, 2004 5:45 PMHey Mr. Wolf, it's been a long time but i hope you remember me - David Brinda. You asked me one time, so I just thought you might be interested in knowing that i plan on majoring or minoring in CHEMISTRY. I'm a freshman at Tulane University now and I'm taking general chemistry and i already know all the stuff. thanks for teaching me!
Posted by: David at October 15, 2004 11:38 PMDavid Brinda! Of course I remember you. More than a small part of my time teaching your class was figuring out ways to keep you feeling challenged. You were a lot of fun to teach, if a little humbling, seeing as you were the one student I could safely say picked up the material faster than I ever had. I knew you'd do well in college Chemistry, if you chose to take it. But I also knew that you were talented enough to do anything else if you put your mind to it.
I'd love to hear more from you. I don't like posting my email address here, or anywhere online, but if you ever write another comment on my blog with your own address included in the fill-in space, I'll get it without it being displayed for spammers to get a hold of. Good job finding me, by the way.
Posted by: Ma$e at October 23, 2004 9:41 PMMason, for some reason I can't post to your most recent post. Anyways, you sound extremely happy.
Posted by: Joe at November 10, 2004 10:15 PMYeah, about that...
There isn't a more recent posting. I kinda had one and then I deleted it, but otherwise, nada. Actually, I haven't thought of much to write since October. I've been having a great time though! Still, you're right to call me to account. I've got thoughts that the people deserve to hear, and a sacred obligation to the man himself, Josiah Quintus Roe, to see that they do! I'll post something this weekend, or maybe even tonight. Maybe I can tell you why the ocean's near the shore or something like that. Be back soon (Really (I swear (Almost for certain (I mean it this time)))). Toodles!
