Bloomberg for President?

So, maybe he won't run, and even if he does run, maybe I won't like his positions. But I gotta admit, having a candidate who is unaffiliated with either major political party and yet has friends he can work with in both, PLUS has no special interest debts to repay since he'd fund his own campaign - well... that's a huge boost in appeal right there. I rather think I'd like to have a choice like that on the ballot in 2008.

There's not much chance of winning a primary unless you can cater to the hardcore party faithful, so short of a third-party candidate, it would be just about impossible to envision a true moderate capable of winning the general election.

But can you imagine what it would be like if ran and he won? It would send an unmistakable signal to Washington that voters are sick of partisan bickering, and want to elect candidates who will work together for the common good rather than the good of their own political machinery.

Looking at the current field of candidates from both parties, I don't think either side will send up a candidate as appealing when the general election comes around.

If only the Constitution allowed Arnold Schwarzenegger to run. Yeah... that'd be sweet.

Well said. It all comes down to the fact that there is not a perfect candidate, nor will there be; but there has to be one who can do more than simply appeal to the barest of majorities while totally alienating almost half the voters.

I agree that neither major party is in line to provide such a person at this point in time.

However, let's check out this Michael Bloomberg (if it looks like he's going to run) and make sure he's someone we can really get behind.
