I'd like to announce that my very first WordPress plugin is ready for general consumption.
I guess it's kinda silly that my homepage is powered by Movable Type. That's going to seem weird to anyone who wants to actually check out my plugin. But hey, whatever. I wrote the plugin to work with my daughter's blog, and I had more experience modifying Wordpress, so that's what I made.
I've made it free to anyone under the GPL. You're free to use, it modify it (just mark where you changed it, and make the source available to others - you know the drill), and do pretty much whatever you want with it except copyright it or sell it as your own.
Of course, Wordpress went and came out with "widgets" recently, so now I need to figure out how those work and let people place their galleries in their sidebars that way rather than modifying their sidebar source. Whatever. For now, please enjoy Album Viewer 1.0.
And if you're curious, check out a working demo. Just click one of the AV-powered links in the left sidebar and see what you think.
I expect to hear of bugs and things that just don't look quite right. Use the comments on this post to let me know about things like that. I know for a fact that it works in php 4.2 on a Linux webserver, viewed by either Firefox 2 or IE 7. Beyond that, well, I did my best to provide function definitions where they might be lacking, and I tried not to rely on platform specific code, but y'know... :) There are going to be compatibility issues, and I'll try to fix them as people let me know about them.
The fine print: The software is provided as-is, and no warranty is made as to its fitness for any particular use. Always backup your database before installing any new plugin. It creates a folder called "albums" at the root of your Wordpress installation. If you've already created a folder called "albums" there, you probably shouldn't use my plugin.
